Ontario Progressive Conservative Leader Doug Ford has appointed candidates in nearly a dozen ridings ahead of the upcoming provincial election, and they include the son of a former premier. Harris Jr. has been appointed to represent the PCs in the riding of Kitchener-Conestoga — a seat currently held by a politician with a strikingly similar name. Michael Harris — no relation to Harris Jr. — announced earlier this month he would not be running for re-election due to medical reasons.
Ontario Provincial Police say a fisherman has found the body of a child in the Grand River, 13 kilometres downstream from where a three-year-old boy went missing during a flood in February. Police say the fisherman found the body at around 3 p.m. today near Orangeville, Ont., and it is being transported to a coroner's office to be identified. Multiple police units and a forensic squad helped remove the body from the river, and they remain on the scene.

The parents of a Victoria teen who died Friday from an accidental overdose say they felt trapped by a medical system that didn't give them a say in their son's painkiller prescriptions. Sixteen-year-old Elliot Eurchuk, whom his parents described as a kind and funny athlete, died at his home after taking street drugs they believe he was using to help him sleep. Rachel Staples and Brock Eurchuk say their son's drug use started after he was prescribed opioids for four surgical procedures last year, even though they had requested alternative treatments.
Justin Trudeau unleashed a blistering attack on Andrew Scheer and the Conservatives Saturday, in a partisan stemwinder aimed at firing up Liberal troops as they prepare for a federal election next year. While Trudeau focused on the Conservatives, grassroots Liberals appeared more intent on ensuring the party isn't outflanked on the left by the NDP, choosing a host of progressive resolutions as priorities they would like to see in the coming election platform.
