Man charged in death of 28-year-old woman found in Toronto apartmentA man charged in the death of a 28-year-old Toronto woman had just met and moved in with her three weeks before she was found suffering from obvious signs of trauma inside their fifth-floor apartment, Toronto police said. Paul Worden said text messages and conversations Selby-Readman had with her friends have lead him to believe that the pair met through social media, where she had recently posted advertisements on Instagram and Facebook seeking a roommate. Once Isaac moved into the apartment, Worden said police hadn't been alerted to any disturbances at the location or incidents involving the pair, who he said had no romantic relationship.

York University students not optimistic strike will end anytime soonYork University students aren't feeling hopeful that they'll be back in class soon, even after some of the school's striking contract workers voted to accept the university's latest offer. Students, and even some staff, say they are confused about when, or if, classes will resume in lieu of Unit 2 accepting the offer and don't feel optimistic that the uncertainty caused by the battle that began in March over wages and job security will end anytime soon. Joy said the university is promising to provide details on classes, which she noted will not resume immediately, adding that students will be notified in the coming days.

Motorcyclists' memorial ride commemorates father killed in Anthony Henday crashThe group gathered at Edmonton's city hall on Sunday morning and began the memorial ride shortly after 11 a.m. The route wove through downtown streets, ran along the river valley and included a roadside stop beside the Henday, where the riders held a moment of silence and prayed. Marc-Andre Helie, 36, died on June 9 after the motorcycle he was riding hit a deer. Helie and Stephanie Stuetz, 28, had three young children — one boy and two girls.

Official closing of the 2010 Olympic ceremonies at the Rutland Centennial Hall.Game time starting at 12:15 p.m. at Rutland Centennial Hall on February 28 and is expected to end at about 3:30 p.m., but everyone is invited to stay, or come back and watch the 2010 Olympics Closing Ceremonies at 5:30 p.m. Bring both your Olympic and Canadian spirit, and dress in red to watch the men’s gold medal hockey game live on the big screen.

Admission is free and Rotary volunteers will be hosting a silent auction, 50/50 fundraiser as well as a concession to raise funds for the 2011 International Children’s Winter Games. Stewart Tulloch’s pride in Team Canada at the 2010 Winter Olympics shines through in a roadside hockey shrine he set up outside his farm in Winfield‘ Tulloch will be cheering on Canada in the gold-medal men’s hockey game today, starting at noon‘ Central Okanagan residents can gather to watch the game for free at Rutland Centennial Hall and Seating is limited, so those who would like to attend are asked to pre-register. The festivities will continue until the Olympic Closing ceremonies at 5:30 p.m Preregister to watch at the Rutland hall by calling 250-765-8516.
